Yo people wassaaaa…aaa…a..up
Angel Rock here and I’m back from a string of shows and then a break. Of course, if you’ve been following my tweets, you’d have some sort of idea where I’ve been lately.
Between the shows at the Jakarta Fair (which was a huge success!) there was a lot of practice at the studio at Mahagenta for the show on the 20th June. The video will be up on YouTube soon. Aghit from Novinmind has some pictures in addition to those I took from my camera phone (check the side menu), which he’s yet to show me completely.
For those who missed out on the show, you also missed out my unveiling of a new track called “Lose Weight” which we performed there and also an exclusively off-air freestyle twist to an old OSA track called “Rollin’ On”. I will update you all when the videos are up.
Anyways I’d like to thank the following fellas who made the show on the 20th run so well: HansRock managers Kiky and Reny, Anov NIM on guitars, Sinyo Mahagenta for the djembe, Desya on backing vocals, and breakdancers Obie, Justin and Steve. But behind the great performances, little did you know there was a series of panic-inducing events that almost forced us to cancel the show. Let me give you a rough chronicle:
2PM: Angel Rock and Kiky leave for Slipi, Jakarta to pick up the rest
of the HR team. I didn’t get to burn the minus ones on CD so I
instructed Kester NIM (who intended to come later) to bring his
laptop.
4PM: HansRock team arrive at the fair for soundchecks. As we waited
for our turn, we got news that Kester NIM’s motorbike broke down. No
laptop. Everybody’s like “oh shit, we’re screwed. No minus ones”.
4.30PM: AR, Kiky and Reny scramble to find a cybercafe to burn the
minus ones on CD. No cybercafe in the fair.
5PM: We find and borrow a laptop from an expo participant at some tech
product stand and burn the waves on CD.
5.30PM: We arrive just in time as it was our turn for soundchecks. As
we checked the instruments, sound man reports that the CD we burned
was unreadable at the player. Turns out it was old-school and couldn’t
play WAVs (typically wavs are treated like CDA’s). Again, everyone’s
like “ohh Shit!!”
5.45PM: Blackberry to the rescue! I had all minus one tracks in my BB
memory and as a last resort we had already considered plugging it into
the mixer directly to play the minus ones, albeit in MONO. So I had no
choice. It didn’t sound too bad at all. The actual show was of higher
importance anyway.
So at around 7.30PM OSA was on stage with the crew thanks to my BlackBerry! Man did we set the place alight after a sleepy music-less pantomime show (WTF!). Kids, and more importantly women were movin’ to our grooves, baby! OSA has Indian vibes, and it puts people in touch with their Bollywood-lovin’ sides.
So there you have it! The story behind the story! Watch this space for more updates! I’m off to hit the sack. Later this week I’ll be at the studio with the Rockafada guys to mix OSA tracks proper. TC fellas.
